Are there any hidden charges (security deposit, activation fees, etc.)?

Are there any hidden charges (security deposit, activation fees, etc.)?

From their official site and plan pages:

  1. “No Hidden Cost”
Airwire states in their FAQ / plan descriptions that there are no hidden costs.

  2. GST Included Pricing
Their pricing plan page says “Inclusive of GST”. So at least the Goods & Services Tax should be factored into the listed monthly plan fees.

  3. Free Installation is mentioned in some context
In one place (“Best Broadband in Bangalore” section) the website says “Free installation *”. But note the asterisk — this usually implies terms & conditions apply.

What is unclear or suggests possible additional charges

Even though Airwire claims no hidden costs, some things are not clearly spelled out or are typical from other ISPs, which may cause charges in certain cases. Here are possible areas where extra charges might apply:

  • Installation Charges / Activation Fees
While “free installation” is mentioned in certain promotions, it’s not universally clear for every plan or region. If you are in a location where infrastructure work, cable laying, or router setup is more involved, there might be installation or activation costs.

  • Security Deposit / Equipment Deposit
The site doesn’t clearly state that you must pay a security deposit for equipment (modem/router/ONU) in all cases. There is no visible mention in the public plan details of refundable or non-refundable deposit amounts. So this point is ambiguous.

  • Equipment Provided vs Owned
If Airwire provides the CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) like the router or ONT, sometimes there are deposits or rental charges for that in many ISPs. It’s not clearly indicated whether Airwire’s equipment is free, provided with deposit, or something the customer must own.

  • Shifting / Relocation Charges
If you move house, or want to shift your connection, ISPs often charge for relocation. It is not obvious from Airwire’s publicly displayed terms whether such shifting charges apply or how much.

  • Damage / Maintenance / Repairs
If equipment is damaged or there are special maintenance requirements, there may be additional charges. The terms don’t clearly cover those scenarios in the plan summaries.

  • Exclusions / Conditions on “Free Installation”
The “free installation *” with an asterisk suggests there are conditions—perhaps “subject to infrastructure availability,” “within certain areas,” or “if standard installation only (no extra cabling, extra distance, etc.)”.

What you should do to confirm

To avoid surprises, here are good questions to ask Airwire (or any broadband provider) when you sign up:

  1. Is there a security deposit?

    • If yes: how much is refundable, under what conditions (e.g. when you return the equipment, any deductions for damages).

    • If no, confirm that you own the router/CPE or that there's no rental charge.

  2. Is there an installation fee / activation fee for my specific location and plan?

    • Ask whether "free installation" applies for your area/premises.

    • Check whether extra work (laying cables, route clearance, long distance wiring) incurs extra cost.

  3. Equipment cost / router cost

    • Do they provide equipment free of cost, with deposit, or for purchase?

    • Who is responsible for maintenance and repairs?

  4. Shifting / relocation charges

    • If you move, will they move your connection? What do they charge for that?

  5. Hidden terms in contract

    • Read the fine print, especially any “Terms & Conditions” or “Fair Usage Policy” that might include throttling, extra charges when you cross certain data usage, etc.

  6. Termination / Disconnection

    • What are the charges (if any) to cancel the service? Any notice period?

    • How is the deposit refunded (if there is one), and how long will that take?
