How do I update router firmware?

How do I update router firmware?

At Airwire Broadband, we always recommend keeping your router’s firmware up to date, as it ensures better performance, stronger security, and access to the latest features. Router firmware is like the operating system of your device – updating it can help resolve connectivity issues and improve stability.

Steps to Update Your Router Firmware:

  1. Check your router model

    • First, identify your router’s make and model. You can usually find this on a sticker at the back or bottom of the router.

  2. Log in to the router settings

    • Connect your device (PC/Laptop/Phone) to the router network.

    • Open a browser and type your router’s IP address (commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).

    • Enter your username and password (default credentials are often provided on the router label, unless you have changed them).

  3. Check for firmware updates

    • Once inside the router’s dashboard, look for Administration, System Tools, or Firmware Upgrade section (this varies by brand).

    • Some routers have an option to automatically check for updates, while others may require you to download the firmware file from the manufacturer’s official website.

  4. Download the latest firmware (if required)

    • Visit your router manufacturer’s official website.

    • Search for your router model and download the latest firmware version.

  5. Upload and update

    • If your router requires a manual update, upload the firmware file in the upgrade section.

    • Do not turn off or restart the router during the update process. This may take a few minutes.

  6. Restart and verify

    • After the update, the router will restart automatically.

    • Log back into the dashboard to confirm the firmware version has been updated successfully.

Important Notes from Airwire Support:

  • Always use the official firmware from the manufacturer to avoid compatibility or security issues.

  • Do not interrupt the process while the firmware is updating.

  • If you are not confident in performing the update yourself, Airwire’s technical support team can assist you remotely or guide you step by step.

Keeping your router firmware updated ensures that you get the best internet experience with Airwire Broadband.
