Can I use my own router or do I have to use the one provided?
Yes, you can use your own router with Airwire Broadband. We understand that some customers prefer to use equipment they're already familiar with, or may want to take advantage of advanced features available on higher-end third-party routers—such as enhanced Wi-Fi coverage, parental controls, or gaming optimization.
What’s Provided:
Airwire provides a pre-configured router with all broadband packages to ensure a smooth setup and reliable connection out of the box. This router is tested to work seamlessly with our network and includes ongoing remote support and firmware updates.
Using Your Own Router:
If you choose to use your own router, you're free to do so. However, here are a few things to keep in mind:
-
Compatibility: Your router must support PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet), as this is the method Airwire uses to authenticate your internet connection.
-
Setup: You’ll need to manually enter your Airwire PPPoE username and password into your router’s configuration settings. These details will be provided upon request.
-
Support Limitations: While we’re happy to help with general guidance, our technical support team may have limited ability to troubleshoot issues related to third-party hardware.
-
Wi-Fi Performance: Depending on your premises and layout, your own router may offer better or worse Wi-Fi coverage than the router we supply. We recommend choosing a dual-band or mesh-capable router if you’re in a larger home.
When Using a Third-Party Router Makes Sense:
-
You already own a high-performance router.
-
You need advanced features not offered by the standard Airwire router.
-
You're comfortable setting up and maintaining your own networking equipment.
If you're unsure whether your router is compatible or need help setting it up, our team is happy to advise you call us 080-46990699.
